Emergency

If someone is seriously unwell, do not fill in a form and do not wait for a call back. Come to Magodo, or call the number below. Someone will answer.

Come immediately if

These do not wait until morning.

Chest pain

Particularly with sweating, breathlessness, or pain spreading to the arm or jaw

Signs of stroke

Sudden facial droop, arm weakness, slurred speech, sudden loss of vision or balance

Difficulty breathing

In an adult or a child, including a child breathing fast or using the chest muscles

Heavy bleeding

That does not stop with firm pressure, or any bleeding in pregnancy

Unconsciousness or confusion

Anyone difficult to rouse, drowsy or newly confused

Convulsion

A first fit at any age, or a fit lasting longer than five minutes

Severe abdominal pain

Sudden, severe, or with vomiting and a rigid abdomen

A baby under three months with fever

Any fever at all at this age is assessed urgently

Serious injury or burns

Road traffic injury, fractures, deep wounds, significant burns

Suspected poisoning or overdose

Bring the container or the substance with you if you can

Before you arrive

What helps us the most

  • Call ahead if you can, so the team is ready when you arrive rather than starting from scratch
  • Bring every medication the patient takes, in the packets, or photograph them
  • Note the time symptoms started. For stroke and chest pain this single fact changes what treatment is possible
  • Bring any previous results, discharge summaries or scans you have
  • Do not give food or drink to anyone who is drowsy, confused or having difficulty swallowing
  • For suspected poisoning, bring the container or substance with you

Critical care

If intensive care or dialysis is needed

The SkyHigh Medical Dialysis and ICU Centre at Mainland Hospital, Yaba, provides intensive care and emergency haemodialysis. It accepts SkyHigh patients and referrals from other hospitals across Lagos.

Referring clinicians should call ahead so that a bed or a dialysis chair can be confirmed before the patient is moved.
