Pharmacy

An in house pharmacy dispensing verified medication, with counselling on how to take it and what to watch for.

Counterfeit and substandard medication remains a genuine problem across the Nigerian supply chain, and it is one of the reasons a treatment that should work sometimes does not. Our pharmacy sources through verified channels and dispenses within the hospital, which closes that gap for our patients.

Just as importantly, our pharmacists talk to you. A prescription handed over without explanation is a prescription that will be taken incorrectly.

What the pharmacy does

  • Dispensing of prescriptions written at the hospital
  • Medication counselling covering dose, timing, food interactions and side effects
  • Review of your full medication list for interactions and duplication
  • Chronic medication refills for hypertension, diabetes and other long term conditions
  • Antimicrobial stewardship in support of the clinical team
  • Advice on over the counter medicines and what not to combine them with

Antibiotics and why we ration them

Antibiotics are freely sold across Nigeria without prescription, and the consequence is a rising rate of resistant infection that makes ordinary illnesses harder to treat every year. If our clinicians decline to prescribe an antibiotic for a viral illness, that is a clinical decision made in your interest, not an oversight.

When an antibiotic is prescribed, finish the full course as directed. Stopping when you feel better is one of the most direct contributors to resistance.

What this will cost you

Cost depends on what you actually need, and we would rather quote you accurately than post a figure that turns out not to apply. Call the front desk or send us a message with what you have been told so far, and we will give you the figure before anything is booked. If you hold an HMO plan we will check what it covers for this specific treatment first.

Common questions

Can I fill an outside prescription here?

In most cases yes. Bring the prescription and our pharmacist will review it, including checking for interactions with anything else you are taking.

Is the pharmacy open at night?

The hospital operates 24 hours and pharmacy provision is maintained for inpatients and emergency cases at all hours.

Who you will see

Care in this department is coordinated by our clinical team at Magodo, with specialist input arranged where your condition calls for it. If you would like to be seen by a particular clinician, say so when you book and we will arrange it where the clinic schedule allows.

Next step

Speak to someone now, or book a time that suits you

The front desk answers at every hour of the day. If it is urgent, call. If it can wait, the booking form takes about two minutes.
